Report on the day
Saturday, June 6th 2009 @ 8:54 PM
The NSW Federation presented Esperanto at a stand at the Stomp Festival. The Stand was excellent from the point of view of preparation, support, resources and execution.
The number of people was relatively low. However, the people that were there (besides the dog-walkers) were generally activists, or that way inclined, and seemed a great target audience. We collected some emails and sold a book, but perhaps the greatest achievement was having the Esperanto word out there amongst so many activists.
What was good about the arrangements?
It was free for information stalls.
We had lots of freshly printed brochures (Alan finally got them printed!)
We had a stamp with the central coast contact details (thanks to Henriette).
The stall looked good thanks to the beautiful and bold posters from AEA.
The survey form prepared by Nicole helped us attract the attention of some people and also collected a few email addresses.
The visits from Mazi, Jonathan, Andrew and their friends was encouraging as well as attracting more to our table.
A toy on the table attracted some children (and their parents)
What could be improved ?
Contact details for the local group could be provided.
Better ideas for attracting people and harvesting email addresses (guessing competition perhaps)
For the record, our inventory included:
Certificate of currency for our Public Liability insurance (The NSW Federation and AEA both have this insurance)
Trestle table
3 Chairs (a few extra to capture weary passing people might be good – but don’t expect those that want to sit to be interested in Esperanto)
Posters
Tablecloth,
Sticky tape for posters and fixing tablecloth,
Form for collecting emails,
Pens
Books and magazines
Brochures (stamped with contact details)
Computer for showing videos etc (optional)
Cover in case of rain. (Clear plastic would be good)
